more on the story here
I am fairly certain that you have been flooded with emails regarding Cpt Paul Watson and suspect that some aren’t the most eloquent or polite of communications. I want to share with you my feelings about this situation for what it may be worth.
I have followed Mr. Watson’s missions for several years and have seen him speak live. He strikes me as a bit of zealot with an ego the size of planet earth. That being said, I truly believe in what he is doing and what he stands for. From watching the shows and documentaries featuring the Sea Shepherd Conservation group and Mr. Watson, though not personally knowing him, I believe in my heart that his actions come from a remarkably unselfish desire to do what is right and just for this planet.
If you asked me if I felt as though some of the confrontations he and his group has been involved in were over the top and often excessive, I would have to agree. But, without his influence and action, whalers, shark poachers, and others selfishly harming the oceans and its inhabitants will destroy OUR planet’s ecosystem. I don’t take everything Paul Watson says to heart, but when he says, “if you kill our oceans, you kill our planet,” I tend to agree.
My only intention with this letter is to tell you that I feel that extraditing Cpt Paul Watson to Costa Rica is not the right thing to do. Whether you agree with his methods and personality or not, he is a man that is willing to risk everything to help those of us not willing to stand up for our planet. His work, like many other activist is vital to generations to come. I don’t have children yet, but I don’t want to ever have to tell them about the animals the USED to be in the oceans. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my email.
Sincerely, Sam Ward
